Work-life balance bill being discussed at Cabinet
Parents will receive five days of unpaid leave to look after sick children under new legislation to be signed off at Cabinet today.
Minister for Children Roderic O’Gorman is bringing a draft of a new Work-Life Balance Bill aimed at providing more family friendly workplaces.
This new bill will bring the European Union’s work-life balance directive into Irish law.
Five days of unpaid leave will be available for all family members to support those with medical needs.
Carers or parents will also have the right to request flexible or compressed work hours.
The legislation will also extend entitlement to paid breastfeeding breaks from the current six months to two years.
The bill will also introduce paid leave for victims of domestic violence.
However, this detail is still being worked on and will be introduced in the Dáil later as an amendment.
